Wasn't there a thread going round about this, most dealer are retro fitting them for £299. They sound like the same kit as yours, audio only.

Many car audio outfits also fit parking sensors.

I would expect to pay around £200 for a system with visual and audio warnings fully fitted.

How straightforward would it be to fit a set of the ebay sensors for example to the rear of an SLK?

Would they fit in the trim piece in the bumper which I believe is removable and therefore the bumper itself wouldn't have to be drilled?

I would only want the audible ones so mounting the display isn't an issue.

Anybody done it?

Very easy to fit all in the boot!--the operating wires attach (plug in) to the unit box -one wire to the brake light in harness one to live one to earth and the little bleeper unit plugs in the box and can be tucked away behind the rear 1/4 headlining.
Thats all you need--the dash mounted indication option is just a gimmick --you are looking behind when reversing not at the display --all you need is the audible signal to assist you.
The kits on Ebay from HK are usually with all instructions and a small hole cutting tool included-- last one I got was £14.99--with colour coded sensors.--

Thanks teddycatkin. Sounds simple enough.

Am I right in thinking that the trim piece in the bumper is removable and that the sensors can be fitted into that to save drilling the bumper itself?

Yes Andy - you only need fit two --but can fit all 4 of course! ---Also just had a look currently on Ebay "Galactic Warehouse "( Tunbridge Wells ) for £12.99 -pp £3.50--all colours available --this is all you need and you will find a lot of satisfaction as well as the savings when they are done?

Safety Plus

These sensors are not just good helpers when you are reversing. In the past 2 weeks two people have walked close behind my car in car parks when I was in reverse gear. Although I could not see them in my mirrors, the sensors warned me not to move, and I am glad I did not.

As long as we have pedestrians who ignore the signs that a car is about to reverse, sensors will be a useful safety feature.

Pedestrians can get a bit shirty though as the loud beep can make them jump. Reversing camera is the next step so you can see the post/wall/car/tree that you just reversed into

Wakening pedestrians is a laudable aim, but a forlorn hope Russ.

I remember listening to a talk by a "road safety expert" who said that "Reversing cameras are the way forward". He could not understand my amusement!

Very civil minded of you Alex, did you have a senior moment:p given I thought you would have run them down for having the temerity not to 'give way' to a superior force:lol:;)

Pure pragmatism on my part Roger. I had just cleaned the car, and you know how much paperwork these fatalities generate! ;)

I did hesitate for a moment, however. The Tesco offer of double points for nailing a pensioner was very tempting!
