Any help is much appreciated.

The beige vinyl has peeled off on the edges of the centre part of my steering wheel revealing an unsightely black underneath. I don't know how this happened, as was there when I bought it.

Its not the steering wheel (leather) itself, but on the centre bit (which you press for activating the horn!)

While I was at merc dealers, I asked them about getting it sorted - they said they would have to replace it, costing £450 plus VAT. I said thanks but no thanks. I've been to an Indi who said they might be able to do it, and would involve taking off the whol thing and repainting it - might take 2-3 days in total - I got a bit uneasy....and he said it'd cost about 80 quid.

Now, its not that much of a big deal. Just wondered, are there not any touch up paints I can get hold of to do it myself? How can I find an exact colour match?

Any replies much welcomed. If needed I can post a pic of my steering wheel!!

Cheers

:D

Can you suggest any specific kits? I bought a "Leather touch-up" kit from e-bay...

This one http://www.repairproducts.co.uk/page9.htm

But its really hard to match up the colour excactly...tried on a small area and had to rub it off as it looked tacky. Also dries quite quickly, so doesn't leave much time to mix the paints up..

There are firms who take the vin number of the car to match it,,someone put up some links just a few day ago, it should be in the body section of the forum

There are loads of firms out there that would do a professional job. Personally whilst you can buy kits, I wouldn't want to do the job myself as I would never be happy with the results. Much better to get a professional to do it. The chips away type guys all do this type of work.
