PELA oil extractor pump DO's & DONT's

right ive got a pump on the way , finally decided I'm too old to be crawling around under cars , any hints tips , advice for getting the best out of using this extraction method ?

Make sure oil is good and warm. Park up to optimise drainage towards rear of sump where oil dipstick sits. Record oil extracted to gauge efficiency?

Send it back and with the refund buy an electric fuel/oil transfer pump, far more versatile and less messy, one transfer from sump to disposal container leaving the pump free for other work in the meantime, next time ask such questions before you commit to a solution

Have to disagree. The vacuum style pumps have their advantages.
I bought one (a Sealey) many years ago to change the LHM fluid in a Citroen XM.
I've since used it for house for plumbing jobs such as emptying CH radiators where the drain is on the radiator valve and emptying the loo bowl when replacing bathroom suites. No power supply required, they are simple and reliable.

As Steve above from me. Been using a Pela for over 10 years and have never considered using anything else. Does the job very well. Simples!

Get one of each type I did. You know you never can have enough tools of all sorts and sizes
Favorite is still the vacuum pump as it's not so easily lost, I mean misplaced, when put away.

Also when you insert the drain tube pull it back 1mm otherwise you are sucking on sump metal

Funny buddy , they are Mrs W’s Y fronts . That is an archive shot of the Pela , although to be fair to sunny Essex it is a nice day today .

I even use my Sealey 6.5 to bleed brakes , just a halfway down press on the handle gets fluid out nice and slow but just make sure to rinse the pipes out after use with a bucket of hot water as with removing any fluids the residue pools in the pipe and will run out next time used and sods law onto paintwork.
I feed my pipes one into the other in a loop and cable tie to the handle.

I have same and will do same if it fails.
I prefer the manual versions so I'm not dependent on a power source when I use it for other things.

I've used my Pela 6000 for all sorts of jobs, even oil changes...

Agreed and with the Sealey pump you can see exactly how much oil you have extracted.
