hi guys, please help me out on this. My engine for some weird reason idles on start only if i put a rag on top of the carb to restrict air intake. once i take it out, the engine dies. I have replace the gasket already and have done the leak test but still failed. This is already one month of headache for me. The chamber where the float is situated gets filled but it doesn't dispense the fuel into the engine. Please give me your precious suggestions, thanks in advance

Then a blocked jet I think,,take them out and blow through them, do not damage the thin gasket

A conversion might be the best thing and use a Weber, as they fit OK

sir roofless, i thought of that also because it might be a mechanical fuel pump failure but i temporarily installed an electric fuel pump just to see if it will add more pressure to squirt out the gasoline. the answer is yes it squirts out gas when it is starved from air by a rag and no it doesn't squirt out gas when started normally.

I think that in order to provide suitable information, we need to be sure if we are dealing with a 2E2, a 2E3, or a 2EE - they are really quite different devices, with different common failures.

For example, if it is a 2EE, it's entirely possible that the fault is electrical / electronic and nothing at all to do with the carb itself.

Is this problem only when the engine is cold,or does it persist even when the engine is warm?
