Hey everyone

I''m looking to buy a 2003 clk500 coupe. Its done 66k miles with full MB history. Just had new brake pads and discs all round fitted. 2 owners from new and looks mint. My questions are:

- whats the average mpg that real owners are getting
- Servicing costs
- how much will my next service roughly be (last service was 61k miles)
- any major faults that tend to go wrong?

Many thanks for all your help, if anyone can answer the above questions asap that would be great as i''m seeing the car tomorrow so want to be prepared!!

thanks in advance

I am not sure about this model. I dont have one. I noticed that nobody replied to you. Anyway welcome to the forum.
I think that this is a V 8.
I know the 430 V8 motor in the 210. I expect that the two motors are not that dissimilar(Someone else here may have better info). However I can say that a 430 is extremely frugal and rivals the consumption of a w202 C 200.
You can carry some of the servicing out yourself but service costs at Merc dealers tend to be extremely expensive. Sorry that is as far as i can assist you.

I don't have one either but it will be the same engine, or close enough, and based on other comments on the 430/500 engine Nicks comments ring true to me. MPG I'd imagine mid teens to early 30s depending on what you do.
The 61k service will have been the biggie so the next service should be minor. By now they should have changed the plugs and done the gearbox oil (if not, walk away). They're not cheap cars to run, given that they're expensive new, parts will be pricey, but the CLK is common enough and the 500 engine pretty sound and, especially in that bodyshell, unstressed.

Hello and welcome,, this will be the same 113 engine as in my car, they are almost bullet proof to run, though expensive for a commuting car, they take about 7 miles to get into the 20's and the max is bordering 30mpg

thanks for the replies, i've been reading and noticed that clk has this problem with the radiator....some sort of liquid that leaks and get in the gearbox or sumthing, anyway i noticed for repairing this if it did go wrong will be nearly £4k

I wont be using the car for work but will be used evenings and weekends. The car is lush, very good condition and has the amg kit.

The gearbox valeo thing can be sorted for £1500 but it may have a Behr and that will be no problem,, if a valeo rad,,change it as a safeguard

Only timing chains on MBs so no problem there,, have you worked out if you are going to use a dealer or indie for servicing

Change the gearbox fluid and filter as this not have been done

That engine in a CLK must fly! My S Class was fast enough. I think you should take the badges off for that 'sleeper' effect.:)
