Ploy V Belt Replacement

Hi,
hoping someone can advise me on how I replace the ploy belt on an A-class
with aircon.
I have purchased a new belt,tensioner wheel and have a diagram of belt routing.
But no matter how hard I try I cant get the belt to fit.
I have been back to belt supplier to ensure I have the right belt for aircon
model, and I do.
I have been told the tensioner is spring loaded, but I can't move it an inch not for love or money.
I would be very grateful if someone could give a detailed explaination of how
I move the tensioner to allow the belt to fit.

Ian can you post the first six numbers of your VIN No. please might be able to help with a diagram, is it an A160 or 140 petrol diesel?

I'd take the belt back then go to MB and get the exact right one.

always hear about people getting parts from elsewhere and having problems
