Got my first service for free, and i won't need one for another 7000 miles... so i can't really comment on it! sorry :)

Dont use main dealers...apart from purchasing parts....and even that they get wrong 50% of the time.

If you take it to a reputable mercedes specialist for its service and get them to stamp your book, the difference in resale value against the difference you have paid in servicing costs would justify staying clear of the main dealer.
