Poor fuel consumption and Slow pick-up

Hi,

I have a 1997 Merc C180 Auto and it is giving me a very poor fuel consumption - about 40 miles for £10.

Also the car is very slugish - i.e. pick-up is really slow, particularly after 70 miles/hour, I really have to push the accelerator all the way down to move the car and after a while I get a sore leg not as it should be.

i have recently got the car fully serviced, including oil change, oil filter change, fuel filter change, and gearbox oil change.

Any ideas on what the problem might be?
Could it be the air mass sensor?

Indeed it could be the MAF,,thats if you have one.

Just for the record I have the same car. My consumption for a full tank to almost empty is around 350 miles.
Costs me £52 at the moment to fill the tank. This represents all short, stop - start journeys.
Yours appears to be gutsing the stuff, so these figures may help you when you get it sorted.

Are you sure you don't have a 5 litre V8 under the hood?

These figures roughly correspond with mine. An average of 30+mpg is easily achieved.
