There's a knocking at the door...

It's NOT them. They've already been and planted bugs

Anyway, to put your mind at rest:

From the BBC:

Porsche launches protest petition

The new charge will be introduced in October
Luxury carmaker Porsche has launched an online petition to back its case for a judicial review against a plan to tax 'gas guzzlers' in central London.
London mayor Ken Livingstone said the Porsche campaign showed what was at stake for Londoners who care about the environment, on Mayoral polling day.

The mayor plans to bring in a £25 congestion charge for vehicles with the highest carbon emissions.

Porsche said they would present their protest petition to the mayor later.

'Wrong message'

On its website, Porsche urge people who consider the proposed charge unfair to write to newspapers and the mayor, letting him know their opposition.

The planned charge, the company says, sends "out the wrong message about what sort of a city London is whilst having no meaningful benefit on the environment."

The mayor said: "The launch of a Porsche website and online petition shows the stakes for London on 1 May, with a major luxury motor manufacturer trying to block steps to reduce the greenhouse gases that cause global warming."

The new charges are due to come into force on 27 October.

Transport for London estimates about 33,000 vehicles that will fall into the new £25 charge sector drive into London each day.

It predicts about two-thirds of these will no longer come into the charge zone once the new fee is introduced.

Have to disagree on two points.

1. anything that keeps porsches off the road is fine by me.

2. anything that keeps me out of London is, again, fine by me.

:-D

Last week i had to get from sarf of the river to the norf. a'm tellin' ya, complete nightmare. And Sat Nav doesn't care that you will be late while trying to make an appointment in our dear capital. I never thought I would ever say the M25 is a nice place to be (only if you're heading out).

I think this congestion charge business is a load of pants. The government gives the chavs everything, free this free that and tax the maximum out of people who work hard for a living and want to enjoy certain luxuries like nice cars. Why the f**k should motorists get taxed so much, we already get enough of it in fuel and road tax.

Most people who have nice cars have worked their way up either through getting a good education and subsequently a good job or being a successful business person. Whereas the unemployed chavs just sit at home smoking weed and living off the beneifts system with their hoodie kids getting into crime instead of being at school. It is all a load of rubbish and I think it sucks.

I don't know how true this is but I heard in the midlands they are going to start charging people per mile that use the M42 from 2010 onwards I think. It is getting stupid. Something needs to happen to stop all this.

I was surprised to see some of the the normal humdrum cars that will be clobbered though.

Come on mate, dont hold back, tell us what you really think :)

Whilst not able to agree with lots of the above comments it does strike me that Mayor Livingtone seems to be able to rule whilst huge numbers of Londoners cant fully support his actions.

My understanding is that the new rule captures lots of lessor cars, for instance a 2 litre Mondeo. In 1997 Blair was elected by "Mondeo Man", I must have missed it but the Blair years must have been so good that Mondeo Man is now part of the filthy rich and needs to be taxed off the road!!

A 2-litre automatic Mondeo, and an older one at that.

I'm all for congestion charging the band "G" cars out of London. After all, walking round The City as I do each day, you don't see any 2 litre Mondeos anyway (manual or auto). It's all black Range Rover Sports with blacked out windows, or the occasional 911 Turbo. Every private taxi firm operates either Merc E220 CDI's or things like Sharan 2.0 TDIs. Nothing remotely band "G" about them.

As always, you pays your money and takes your choice. If you don't like, don't drive in. No one's forcing you.

It`s not just those who drive into London, its also those who live in London and not just the central zone at that, it will soon extend through the suburbs to the M25. At the moment residents get a discount on the congestion charge but the discount is now abolished for band G cars. So,for Mr wage earner in Shepherds Bush with the proverbial Mondeo or similar it`s £150.00 per week please.

But those who pollute more should pay more, right ?? Surely you don't disagree with that ?

After all, why should you live outside London only to then drive into the city where I live and leave your 225g+ behind in every km you drive.

It's just like those who live in bigger flats & houses should pay more council tax, which they do. No real difference there, is there ?

Sounds like you just don't like being caught out. Well, you have a way out. Buy something else instead .... like anything with a "d", " TDI" or "CDI" badge on the back. All those private car service firms in London can't be wrong, now can they ? Then it'll only be the particulates that are left to kill us city folk ......
