Hi there.

I was traveling on the motorway when my e350 cdi 231bhp lost power. When I pulled over it appeared when I revved the power was still low and white smoke was starting to appear.

I have got it recovered and home but I'm wondering if it could be turbo or injectors? And also would the newer e350 265 bhp turbo be ok on the 231bhp model... If I have to swap it I'd like more power lol.

Thanks.

Hi Callum welcome, It sounds like injectors with white smoke. Best to get diagnostics hooked up and codes read, some of the techs might be along in the morning to give advice. Any particular out of place engine noises? off cylinders, whistling etc?

Hi and thanks. No bad noises just dropped boost completely and didn't want to rev much at all. Once I pulled over and restarted it, the car had no oomph and some white smoke each rev. I am going to get it on a diagnostic as you say as I thought it could possibly be either injectors or turbo.
I don't know which ones worse or not haha. Nightmare.

Diagnostics like star will be fit to narrow down if it is an injector and which one it is although best to fit a full new set from experience if it is them. what sort of miles have you got on clock? post up your location and some of the other members on here can recommend the nearest indie if you dont have one and dont like spannering yourself.

Remove the inlet pipe to the turbo and check the movement of the impeller. Any more the 1.5 mm laterally or 0.5 mm axially is bad.

I had about 1/2” of movement on 200TDI turbo...

Appreciate the help guys, I'll do a few checks as mentioned and try get it to a garage as soon as possible. I've had the car nearly 3 years and mileage is 106k... Annoying as I was just about to do some cosmetic things to her.
Typical timing for something mechanical to go wrong.
Cars been great and plenty power, it's sitting around 285 bhp just now. Serviced regularly. Have had a few issues with the egr in the passed but the remap fixed that.
