Just read an article on bbc news about renewables and 5 years ago 1 in 25 cars sold was an ev, globally its now 1 in 5 , does not matter about the ice ban changeing in the uk i think momentom has already begun .
EV sales will now slow now with the delay of the ban on new ICE sales, the price of EVs, technology uncertainty, charging point availability, insurance premiums etc.

I expect that some of those lovely tax incentives (that make EVs affordable) will also soon disappear. My son switched from an AMG E53 to the Taycan because, with all the perks, it was only going to cost him a little more to drive a car that probably cost double (not sure of exact prices).

I dont think because the uk has moved ice deadline forward will make any difference globally as i said factories are already set for ev manufacure and uk plays only a small part in ev sales. we shall see!.

As an aside have you ever tested it? Those packs are usually hugely overrated. I still have a set of heavy duty jumper cables that I used in Oz for all my bush adventures (still brand new and unused). Had a LC200 (lifted & modded for offroad) and Kimberly Karavan and did about 30,000 miles in the outback including crossing the Simpson desert, Oodnadatta, Birdsville etc
Used it once on a rellies car. Worked OK. Very reputable outfit producing them. Can only hope it lasts. Needs to be "charged" every 6 months according to blurb but has bee 100% every time I've hooked it up. I've carried jumper leads for years too but rarely used them. Insurance!!
You've done some stuff I haven't done here Rory. The Simpson for one. Done most else.
At 83, buying an EV was really a last hurrah for me. Something new to get interested in and learn about. One needs challenges or one curls up and dies. So far, experience has been positive. Still lots to learn about it. Modern cars just have soooo much tech in them. Lots rather unneccessary in my book but.... This is the unit I bought... https://itechworld.com.au/products/itech2000a-portable-jump-starter-backup-qi-wireless-power-bank
Hope you can access the site.

Agree globally, don’t agree in the UK. There are also other technologies in the pipeline

we have just signed up to peak save with british gas, so tommorrow from 11am to 5 pm its half price electric!, so will be sticking the car on charge for a few hours, all you do is use less electric at peak times so the day we have is wednesday from 5pm until 9pm which is a quiet day for us as the kids will be at uni/work.

If I were considering buying an EV, I would be extremely concerned the way the insurance industry is viewing these cars.
I've read of two companies that now refuse to insure them. How many will follow and at what increase in premium.
ICE cars are bad enough to insure currently, especially Range Rovers in London, but EV's look to be following the same path.
Definitely watch and wait Tony.

I’m confused. You’re offering insurance on classic EVs?

There’s a growing trend converting classic cars to EV propulsion… they will no doubt require insurance…
^ That's right. We have insured some classic electric conversions over recent years, and there is a growing trend of this, but we can also insure modern specialist electric vehicles too.

Just imagine a classic MG or something with dual motor and 0-60 in 1.5 seconds.

I would miss the traditional blue haze and smell of oil that accompanies most British classics, not to mention the serial unreliabilty..

Besides the rust, auto gearbox, 6v batteries under the back seat, parasitic drain and the rubbish acceleration there was nothing to dislike about my ~1967 MGB GT.:)

Spoke to Moggy at the Fully Charged Live Show at Farnborough last year (it’s just up the road from me). He seemed a really nice fella and was impressed with the quality and workmanship of conversions they had on their stand. Look at their web-site, the BMW 3.0 CSi ‘Batmobile’ caught my eye!

My son's mate is converting an Alfa 156 to electric, started it 15 years ago. I'm sure it's not finished yet either. Maybe he should send the car to Vintage Voltage

Imagine me converting my V8's to silent exhaust notes ........Won't happen!!

Well common sense prevails my son was considering selling his BMW 530d 21 plate next year and taking up his company EV salary sacrifice scheme of course I wasn’t keen for all the reasons listed above he has now concluded that he’s changed his mind stating the world isn’t ready for it yet - phew what a relief

There is nothing currently to compare with visiting a filling station and putting 600 miles of fuel in the car in 5 minutes

Whne you finally decide on your EV, make sure it has a tow hitch and adequate towing capacity so you can also have one of those!!:D
