hello again

to start with i have a 52 reg Merc 220CDI recently i kept getting power loss and therefore changed the MAF unit and sensor. However this has made no difference at all.
I can be driving along and all of a sudden it i have no turbo, when its like this it wont let me get above 3000rpm. There are no warning lights displayed at all. If i turn the engine and leave it for a little while it will all work as it should and then cut out again.
Am i missing something obvious here? or would it be best to get diagnostics on the car
As always your views are much appreciated

Chris

It sounds like you are falling into the trap of replacing things that 'might be' the problem.
Bite the bullet and get the fault codes read. If it's gone into safe mode, the ECU should have a note of why. There are several things that can trip a safe mode on a cdi and you'd eb a lot better off knowing what the ECU thinks is the problem.

Thanks for all the advice, its in with the garage at the mo, and apparently they have just read that its power charge or something along them lines (something to do with air pressure im guessing?) Anyway If they get the problem worked out I will let post it on here in case it helps anyone else.
Again thanks very much for all the advice, it is always apprecaited

Any opinions? following the above mentioned power loss the garage have said that the catlayst has gone blown up etc. i have no probs with this and am getting it changed. However could this be the reason for the intermitent power loss or is this likely to be a secondary cause? I had the MAF replaced prior but it was still loosing power every now and then, any ideas? Basically i dont want them to replace the cat and then have power loss and bugger up the cta again!!

apologies to waste ur time after checking out some other threads (sorry newbie mistake!) it would appear that this is due to the catalayst. The diagnostic check was showing charge pressure control to low when the MAF was replaced, so it would appear that the catalayst was knackered therefore affecting the air flow etc. Mind you if im totally wrong (which i usually am!!) please tell me so!!
as always great site and thanks to all for their advice

I've just had a similar problem. Turned out to be a random hose which had rubbed (causing a small hole) in another hose linked to the turbo. The ECU reported 'boost pressure error', I occasionally lost turbo, but restarting the engine would fix it. I don't know the the specifics as it's been in today for repair under warranty (ie, I've not seen it with my own eyes).

Probably unrelated to your problem - there seems to be a lot of possible causes - MAF, valves, hoses *shrug*

i agree a nitemare!!! mine was 'charge pressure control to low' they reckon that the MAF when faulty caused the problem with the catalyst, so its now and getting it back tomorow, im just hoping that the catalyst is the primary cause, from my little/mo knowledge it appears that this causes a blockage of the system/airflow thingy, which would cause loss of turbo/revs etc? Well when i get it back and test drive i will post a response good or bad! good luck with yours too at least yours is under warranty!!!!!
