i got to know from the previous owner of my car whom i am still in touch that the steering rack was changed of this car as it was leaking previously and for now it has ATF instead of Central Hydraulic fluid in it to check for leaks etc, the same Mercedes Benz gear oil that goes in transmission

car has only been driven 1000km since then, i should change it to the correct central hydraulic fluid is there any harm running like this? steering feels as it should too and no noise either,

whats the way to change it is it length? it has a drain nut at the bottom and undershield has to be removed? what about bleeding? it takes 0.75 litre of fluid?

I do know that some other "normal" cars use ATF for the power steering fluid....

Somebody told me using ATF in it would lead to a very expemsive repair bill soon and only CHF 11S should be used?

While we are on the subject is there a need to change rear differential oil at 87000miles

Is only synthetic gl4/gl5 oil required or can mineral be used as well?

I am a believer in changing the rear diff oil.
withe my past 3 Mercedes cars I have had it changed and it was very black and dirty at around 50,000 miles.
it cant do any harm to change it.

on the subject of the power steering fluid I suppose the safe thing to do is to change it for genuine Mercedes power steering fluid.

thanks a lot, after suffering from much confusion i finally decided just to go to official mercedes dealership here

it'll cost me around 150 pounds for a a coolant and PS fluid change including labour which is fair i think

the fluids i discussed on the phone coudnt note th part no,s ill find out when i go there but they said against checking my VIN no that the power steering fluid will be yellow and coolant will be green, all original mercedes benz parts

its correct?

This website gives a good overview
1pound sterling=167 Pkr as of today

As far as automotive goes the labour rates for doing work of avg cars(not Mercedes) is extremely cheap and is not charged by the hour in any workshop, even two days of engine swap or rebuilt labour woundnt come more than 100pounds !

However there are only 4 Mercedes dealerships in the country and they are known to charge exhuberent rates

please advise, i had the power steering fluid changed from the official dealership, using the genuine and latest MB fluid for this car, now the rear diff remains, they are saying that the fluid by mercedes that it will use will cost 122pounds just for fluid! and that its not available either and i would have to make 50% advance payment and order it,

meanwhile regular gl5 85W-90 and 75W-85 mineral fluid are available from Mobil 1 for 10 pounds, how come such a price difference, is the genuine me cedes fluid synthetic and thats why it costs so much? the dealership wont tell me the part no so i have no way of verifying, i don't want them to put the rear diff fluid of a AMG vehicle or limited slip fluid when mine doenst actually have a limited slip differential

is there any harm in using mobil 1 mineral gl5 oil

and does it really need to be changed now thats its 87000miles and 12 years old or should i not risk changing and putting maybe not a very good fluid in it

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
The steering gear holds 1 litre of MB 345.0 A001 989 24 03 or Pentosin CHF 11 S hydraulic fluid.

By the way the axle oil for hot countries should be 90W
