Hi all,

I’ve got a 2009 ML320 but over the last few weeks have been having issues with what I think is the power steering.

When I turn left or right it’s a lot harder than normal to turn, sometimes it’s okay, but mostly it’s difficult. Because the mechanic at halfords could turn it with one finger he deems there’s no issue lol, but when you know your steerings faulty it’s hard to convince others.

When turning into a road, the steering would normally feed back on itself however it’s not and I’m having to do it.

Plugged into a Delphi diagnostics and no issues on the computer found. Check and power steering was empty when this first started, but I topped up since between min and max, but even after weeks it’s still the same. Checked and all my tires are fine, so unsure what this could be. Any suggestions appreciated

Hello and welcome,

Firstly, never take your Mercedes to hellfrauds for anything…

I’d lubricate with 3in1 oil all the steering linkages and find a decent Mercedes Independent Specialist in your area. Add your location to your profile and members can give recommendations.

You said the fluid was empty till you filled it. Why? Have you checked you don’t have a leak.?

Wasn’t completely empty but needed a refill. Checked and no leaks

Does a ML have diff locks?
Had a similiar feeling on a Ford Ranger locked in 4 wheel drive due to transmission wind up.

Don’t think it does. Might be wrong though. It’s now almost completely without power steering. Found a place called Mercland that will plug into star for me at £35 so hopefully give me something to go from. Hoping it’s not the pump itself, and maybe just a seal.

Hydraulic fluid has gone somewhere if it needed topping up.
Star may not pull anything if its a pure mechanical issue.
Mercland are good as is Jay - used to post on here in the past.
Leave it with them to sort out. Good mechanics don't like being told how to do thier job.
