The car suffers from a strange problem with regards to starting.

When the car is cold the car starts in the normal amount of time, approx 2 secs of engine crank. The problem arises after the car has been driven for a long while and is hot, then parked up for 10 minutes. When you go to restart the car it keeps turning but doesn't fire up. It has the one flick start so the engine turns for approx 5-10 secs and then stops. If you press and hold the key it will start after about 20 seconds of cranking. Once started, if i switch it off and restart, it starts straight away.

The other problem the car has, not sure if its related is it comes up with:

EL POWER CONTROL - VISIT WORKSHOP

This happens if i kickdown sometimes, and stores a fault code on diagnostic under the common rail injection section:

Excessive boost pressure

Now the car the car has no power loss, great fuel economy, but suffers from the above problems. There is no air in the fuel pipes

So for the rail pressure sensor has been changed along with the crankshaft position sensor. Both these had no effect on the problems.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

If the car is better when full of fuel, then the fault could be in the return to tank system

To be honest i think its more temperature related than fuel related. The car belongs to my cousin but has been in my possesion for the last week. On a hot day it takes forever to start it if the engine is hot!

OK then just un plug the sensor for water temp, and the car will think that it is cold

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
hehe Malcolm.

It could be an air leak, the diesel may be flowing back into the tank?

Try parking it nose down on a hill, see if it happens when you do that.

A slight update. Everytime the engine is hot and i floor the car the EPC warning light comes on and the car switches off. After restart the light goes away but will come back on full acceleration. The fault code comes up in diagnostics saying Excessive boost pressure (under the common rail injection section).

Any ideas whats the cause?

Problem solved.

One of the injectors was leaking inside and causing all the above problems!

Your tuning trip ups the fuel pressure in the rail, great performance but it will wear out the injectors quicker as you have found.

At nearly 100k i would expect the injectors to need changing slowly, but i do agree wit your statement. You can't have that extra performance without a downfall, otherwise MB would do it as standard!
