Questions about E270

Hi Guys,
traded my CLK 320 Cab in for a 04 plate E270. Am really impressed with the car at the moment but have a couple of questions that I need answering before my next visit to the dealership. The car had the wing mirrors auto-folding (and unfolding) upon start up and shut off. Very impressive but they make a right creaking/groaning noise in operation. Jetwashed the car on Sunday (mirrors folded out) and now the passenger side mirror sticks in the folded position. Have changed the setting in the "convenience" mode and have now set the mirrors to stay out all the time. Is this a common problem with the mirrors?

Also I get like a intermittent "pumping" noise from the area of the steering column, sounds like the airbag is being pressurised???

Any comments gratefully received, thanks

The mirrors do stick. A gentle helping hand from time to time does the trick. My driver's one didn't unfold the first time this morning. I had to wind them back in with the button and try again. Came out on the second attempt. The passengers gave up for a while last year but is fine now. A little lubrication from time to time helps too.
I suspect this is why you can't buy one now with the auto fold option.

The thumping - are you sure it's not the SBC repressurising?

Sensotronic Braking Control. It's the buzzing you can feel and hear every so often as you brake. It can also go off when you unlock the doors. Basically your brakes are electronic so what you can hear is the electric pump pumping your braking system back up. Its a very clever system but can be a bit noisy at times.

I have 'cured' the creaking/groaning noise problem of fold in mirrors by liberal application of Halfords Silicone Lubricant monthly or when noise returns - also use same in window channels to maintain ease movement of glass - brilliant stuff - Bill

Thanks

Auto fold is in the convenience menu on the new ones :)

MB has taken the ability to fold on locking off later cars as (they said) people complained about the creaking!

The helping hand suggested needs to be done at the same time as the mirrors should be unfolding - once they've stopped trying to move then you can't help them out.

Interesting that it is not in the menu on the 230, I do not want that feature where I live and go. I do have the switch

When you look at the little tiny motor that closes them you can see why there will always be problems, you must keep them lubricated with one of the PTFE or Silicon lubricants

novel.
My Dads 52 plate hasn't got it, my 54 plate has, My Friend's 55 plate hasn't and your (56?) does - I wish they'd make up their mind!
I agree it does make things very confusing, especially when it comes to fault finding.

I drove a brand new E class 280cdi today and that has mirrors which fold away as soon as you lock the car.
