Hi, just purchased a 2003 E320cdi (pics will follow at a later date!)

It has the pre wired phone thing, but i have not got the phone.

My question is, is it a nokia 6310 or 6310i, or do they both work?

And can i change the cradle thing to use a different phone??/?

I got a new cradle from Merc today for my car - depends on the model you have, but the later ones have a cradle that can be swapped at a not insignifcant £131. The old one I had was for a 6310i. Mine is a Oct 03 CLK if that helps (probably not).

The phone cradle can be changed, but they do not have one for every phone model, so it's worth asking a dealer. Cradles cost about £130 and just clip into place.

you can use the 6150,6210 and maybe 6310 and 6310i, the early holder do not work with the 6310i
you can change the holder £130 but its easier to buy a 6210 like I did for £20 on Ebay.

Does depend on whether you have the type that can be swapped. Dealer will be able to tell you in 10s. Alternatively, if there isn't one near to you, I can email you a photo of mine if that helps. Only after the weekend though...

Mine is a 2004 E320 cdi and the bracket can not be changed, so I assume the '03 one is also not changeable.

It works with both the 6230i/6230. The upside of this is they were such popular business phones, you can get many good 2nd hand ones to buy.

I did that and got a spare sim for it and use it as my 'car phone' so don't need to take it in and out.

In most parts of Europe you can get a dual SIM (two SIMS for the same number) for just this purpose, but can't in RIP off UK

If you are quick you can get the Nokia 6230i at TESCO now for £77. Since I paid nearly £200 I think that is a bargain. great phone and takes exellent photos.
