Welcome to the forum Gerardo,

I myself do not know a huge amount about 107s but I know a man who does.
Myros has bought one recently and has got a lot of information on a German 107 site. I went on it but I do not understand German (at all). Mike has also a 107 on here. Both of them should be on in the next day or so to advise you on your purchase. Its a 380 with a 500 engine; am I right.

Yes Pascal

It is a R107 from 1982 the original owner broke the engine and after looking for the part prices he decieded to buy a complete used engine in running condition and that is why the cars end with a 500, at least this is the story he told me.
The car is prety nice to have 23 years old, as far as I can see the mayor problem is some smoke that I did not determine why, the smoke appaers when I start the car with a strong combustible smell and when I stop downhill, apart that the car needs a lot of care since the mechanical have been short cutted ( I mean not in the rigth way).
Hope to hear from other than can help me, but if you send me the addres of the german site I could check.
Thanks

Gerardo

I hope this helps

Gerardo,

the German sites I have found are very good, and some of the guys there understand English pretty well, so you've nothing to lose by registering with them. The sites are
107 SL Freunde and Sternzeit 107. A google search should get you the web address. You just have to register your e-mail address and a user name like you did on here.
So far, I have the Bosch fuel injection manual for the K-jetronic in German.I'm trying to get one of the original 107 manuals from Germany as well, but have been outbid so far.
The US sites are pretty good as well, there is one called OurSL.
There are many very helpful 107 owners here and at the MB Club. If we can help, we will.
As for your stong smell, they all smell a bit petrol-rich on start-up, but should lean off a bit when warm. As for the smoke, it could be valve-guides or piston rings or a combination of both. A little smoke on start-up is okay, but lots, all the time, bad news. Let us know what your mileage is and what your oil consumption is like.
Good luck

give us a clue

gerardo, before we go hunting for information to help you, can you give us your engine number and chassis number, as it will help us locate information relevant to your car.

Cheers,

Myros
