R129 280 auto box

My 1999 280Sl has an auto box that sometimes has no drive, pull over to the roadside and when slowing down is regains drive, also gives slight judder when reversing up driveway. Changes are slow when cold, not as smooth as they should be when warm. What is the part number for a new box? Only done 51,000 miles.Any suggestions

not sure about the judder, but have you checked your oil levels? low atf causes a feeling similar to clutch slip

You will not need a new box, yours sounds to be low on fluid, do have this checked, there are other parts that could cause the fault. The box is reparable if the fluid is OK

You do not have a dip stick, that is only a sealed cap on top, checking ther level is still the first thing to do.

You can ask the one that changed the fluid to re check the level

Thanks for that, we all seem to be heading in the same direction, will be less than impressed with the two independents that have looked at it if the levels are low. will get it checked in the morning
