I have a generally up together 1991 SL300-24 with 105,000 miles on it. Can't get the beast to kickdown - which has frustrated of late. The gearbox changes up and down normally in regular driving - but I've sat behind the odd truck trying to kick the box down and ending up selecting it down manually.

Can anyone tell me whether there is a kickdown cable to adjust?
Alternatively or perhaps additionally - could it be the kickdown switch - and where is that bit of kit located?
Anything else?

Any thoughts or ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated.

R129 - autobox won't kickdown

Stats, thanks very much for your informative reply and the useful diagram. I find that the throttle action on the car is fairly stiff, so perhaps in dealing with the kickdown switch it might well be worth changing the accelerator cable also.

Thanks also for your expertise on the roll bar light snag - appreciate it.

I will post back on both in due course.
