So currently this is whats not working on the GL320
Horn , wipers , indicators , loads of traction control related things DSR etc , and the fans on the engine are running whenever the car is driven , it does run and drive fine bar the above , biggest issue is it will not communicate thru OBD which is a real pita

But where pal , rear sam defo had water on it , front ones mint , if we can confirm all the above not working items are controlled from the rear sam then it obvs needs a new one ! Assuming the sam units on these MB dont lose the code if disconnected???

Hmm, sounds steering column module to me, but OBD down is a concern

Have you checked the K line fuse?

Ok , all the fuses in the engine bay are ok but not fully looked at others , so many things not working is usually a sam issue

If it had water on, get it opened up and look for damage.

All the things you mentioned can come from steering column module

I did pal , contact cleaner and toothbrush, did fit a spare one bit if anything it was worse ! Cant say there was any significant damage , BUT if all the things not working are power / control by the rear sam then it stands to reason it needs a known good one coding in OR a new one coding in from MB

I’d be looking at @Uncle Benz advice above first

Including the engine fans ? Blimey
No, that’s from the K line down. Don’t rule out nervous chatter from the faulty unit filling the canbus so nothing else can get a word in. Engine ecu will run the fan full speed if it can’t communicate with anything else. Could be to protect the engine, could just be a tantrum thing, but they do do that.
