For a couple of days now, we've been hearing a funny clunking noise from the back end of our C220 CDI. Just back from the Indie, (who we trust implicitly), who tells us that one of the rear springs needs replaced. Not only that...but apparently they are usually replaced in pairs! Anyway, he's quoting £196.00 to supply and fit the pair, which we don't think is too bad.
He did say that these cars are prone to springs and shocks, but he thinks the red chips in our driveway may well be the culprit. Apparently it's quite common for the red chips to be caught in the tread of the tyre, and drop into the spring, where they get lodged between the spring coils, causing the spring to crack. Sounds feesible to us, and we have had excellent service from him, so no arguments there!
Now the expensive part...monoblocking the driveway!

Just noticed...this is in the wrong section. Apologies!
