Folks,

After causing a rather heated debate on the subject of indie vs. dealer service (and I will genuinely apologise to anyone I was rude to, or offended - I was just frustrated over the confusion caused by MB!), I eventually opted for an independent MB specialist service.

Was I glad I did? Hell yes! A fraction of the dealer price, all the work done, and the car was even washed! Ok, not valeted, but hey, I saved at least £200, more like £400. Genuine Merc parts used, and warranty still in tact.

So if you want an independent service in the Swindon area, I'd suggest you look at PC Autocare.

For other recommendations of them, try http://www.goodgaragescheme.co.uk/feedback/index.php?id=2405

And no, I'm NOT affiliated with them in any way!

Cheers

This is probably not an option for anyone witha newish car. I believe that you may lose Mobilio cover unless the car is serviced at a MB dealership.

Hi.

You are quite right but there is lots of debate on the Forum as to whether that sacrifice is as punitive as it may seem. Worth doing a search.

Mobilo zealots will defend the virtue of Mobilo recovery (and the costs of dealer servicing to maintain this perk), whereas others take the view that different independent arrangements are less expensive and may provide a more reliable response faster.

So, you pays your money, and you takes your choice. The most important thing is that you should be happy with the outcome - as you clearly are.

Alex - Quite true. My car is just over a year old. I think that I shall keep to MB servicing until the car is 3 years old and then decide whether to change to an Indie. In the interim I shall obtain quotes from an MB dealer and an Indie for anything other than servicing (and go with the cheaper) as this should ensure the Mobilio contract holds.
