Recommendations needed!

Having stumbled across the MBOA discussion forums by chance, I hope someone may be able to help me. I'm looking for a recommendation for an independent M-B specialist in the Bristol area.

Specifically I'd like to find someone experienced in the repair of leaky 4-matic transfer boxes...

I've recently had some engine work carried out by a main dealer who advised me that they would happily carry out the transfer box work for me as well, but the cost would be crippling and for me to try an independent instead, to save a load of loot...

Any suggestions?

How do you fancy a pint in the evening some time? I live in Stroud, work in Filton, and we have Mike B who lives in Bradley Stoke.

Mike recommended a local man to me and I will be sounding him out, I am sure Mike will post the details for you. In fact I'll check my PM's and post it here, just in case.

Info from Mike B:

"The chap that services my te is "DC Autocare" who has a workshop in frampton cottrell, and also has a mobile service. He is not a Mercedes specialist, and I am not connected to him but he is an excellent mechanic. One who diagnosed a small problem with my car when so called "specialists" didnt, his name is Dave, he is very reasonable and even more important, honest.
I have his telephone number in my mobile (which I have left in work....!) but he is in the yellow pages.
Alternatively a colleague recommended a chap called tony cridland who owns a garage called 'the gibb' at castle coombe on 07966 368710. he is a merc specialist who apparently is excellent however, personally I cant vouch for him.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the information, I'll try to make contact with him (DC) and let you know how I get on. Hopefully he'll have experience of the transfer boxes, if not the search must go on further afield!
