For routine servicing did anyone know of a remap could get overwritten, i.e. the ECU put back to standard?

If it is work involving diagnostics, does an overwrite become more likely m

I read that as the OP being concerned it could be done accidently when an overwrite is not desired. I could be wrong

Unless there is a update on star for your ecu, dealer will not re flash it as part of your service.

Sorry, could you clarify please?

If I took it in for service and there happens to be an update on Star, does this mean the remap will be overwritten without my permission?

If there is an update for your car, I would imagine MB will just do it.

An update will overwrite the remap in that case - Vauxhall did exactly this to one of my cars.

It is well known that no Mercedes dealer will update anything unless its needed.

Updates are there for specific reason and not there just to be done.

Updates are there to solve problems.

There is always an element of risk with doing any update, and cars do not get plugged into STAR on at most service outlets.

when mine went in last year for its first service, the manager told me it needed an update, i said i thought i would have been told about it earlier,he replied, "if its not an emergency update we just wait for the car to come in for a service and do it then,if it is an emergency MB or DVLA would notify owners by post".so if you dont main dealer service you dont get your updates.(or would an indie know of these)?.

I'd be much happier having an indie doing servicing on a remapped car. At least you could specifically tell them not to update the ECU.

I imagine that would not go down well with a main dealer! ;)

Does servicing by an indie affect the MB warranty? (It no longer does for BMW).

Quite toby, my bad.

It used to be that software updates were part of a service. They still are at Avantgarde Automotive!!

Oh dear, I certainly wouldn't want that on a remapped car! :D

Dont worry I can tell if its remapped or not. Software version gives it away

So, presumably, so could a dealer?

Some tuners claim it's not immediately obvious.

Of course they can, most dont bother to look in the control unit data, when you should always print off the existing data in case something goes wrong.

It does sound as if it would be wise to use an indie for servicing a remapped car.

Still wondering if anyone knows whether indie-servicing affects the warranty. Hopefully not, these days.

Block exemption means we can service your car and not effect your manufacturers warranty. A dealer sold extended warranty maybe different but chances are if you have remapped your car then you may have invalidated certain aspects of your warranty any way.

I have had remapped BMWs serviced by main dealers without issues, although on one occasion the tuner's badge on my bootlid caused comment! :D

(I forgot to remove it.)

Some Re-maps are write protected and will prevent star from Flashing the ecu, Sounds good but in my case it caused a big headache. Im the customer of Steve@Avantegarde he mentioned earlier, under Steve's advice I had Gad tuning re-map back to mercedes original, this allowed Steve to sort all the problems with the car and it now runs like a dream
I'm very happy with it and the service I get with Steve

Best
