Thankyou Malcolm Wish id asked prior to dismantling half the engine and stripping out a head bolt with a torx instead of a spline.
Is there any way I can check if the head needs skimming ..anything else i can check the engine for before re asmbling it?

I would ask a engineering firm to measure the head, it need a special set up to do it. Heads mainly warp when over heated, but cast iron is a very unstable metal anyway.
There may be nothing wrong with it.

At least with those papers you can set it up OK

Thats are hard one there is no gasket, it must have been sealed with one of the non drying gasket compounds like the blue hermetite,

Well finally got the engine back together and now although it turns over is not running..seems like fuel is being delivered ..now wondering if the chain slipped a sproket or two..or firing order wrong or..not enough spark could really use a timing set up for the engine and a way to check the firing order and electrical system..
Thanks
Matt

Haynes manual 3511 will give you all the information you need to strip and rebuild your M111 engine. If the camchain is fitted correctly the firing order and timing setup will be correct.
