When you say which ....
There are 4. One doesn't appear to do much but the other 3 do as far as I could tell. If you look at the DIY, you'll see I initially twisted the broken wire back together only to find it still didn't work. I then found the rest weren't much better. Only when I repaired 3 of the 4 did the mirror work again.
In any case, why do you ask?
If any of the wires are broken, they all need fixing.
I've just fixed the driver's side on mine this week. Of 11 wires, 10 were broken. The loom that runs the glass was ok (6 ish wires) for some reason but the rest of the looms (adjuster motor plus indicator) were shot. The indicator didn't actually given any problems - I stripped it because the mirror stopped adjusting properly) but looking at the state of the wires, a fault was only weeks away.
Just gently pull on each wire in turn and watch the insulation stretch as the wire inside given no resistance.

hi jberks, i was asking as i was going to fix just one of the wires that was the cause of the fault, but as you say i may as well replace all the wiring if it's no big deal. thanks for your help, i'm having a go at it today.

I have now fixed the wiring and all is working but i'm having trouble getting the mirror casing to go back in to place, should it just clip back in?

Thanks for your help malcolm and jberks too! What makes me laugh is that the so called merc specialists had said they checked the wiring and it looked good and that it was defo in need of a new indicator itself! I had a look myself and could clearly see the wire was completely snapped away! Makes me wonder whether they did actually check it! I will be dropping in to them tomorrow, I'm really loosing trust in garages, and they are meant to have a good reputation as well!

Thans for this excellent 'How To'.

I have a passenger side mirror which does not heat, and has a very annoying tendency to 'wander' off its memory setting as it pleases (which is very frequently).

I'm not entirely convinced that the dimming is working on the driver's side either.

I have long suspected broken wires, and now that I understand what's involved I shall have a look tomorrow (or whenever the rain next abates for long enough).

Thanks again!

I just wanted to thank all the contributors on here for the thread. I had a duff nearside mirror which I repaired. Then SWMBO smashed it by hitting a wheelie bin...

Got the mirror frame from ECP, and an indicator. Rescued the cover and reassembled it all today. 90 mins work and it is like new.

Thank you very much indeed.

Remove w211 2008 wing mirror

Hi
Just picked up a e220 estate 2008, both side wing mirror Len's are cracked, can someone help with removal instructions? They are not the slide off version, it has power mirrors with a pivot.
Thanks

Hi
I believe it is a S211 or W211, last of the older shape.
Many thanks

On the last of the 211 you press the glass in at the bottom and use a wedge in the top to lever the glass out. You could use stick on glasses at £10 or you replace them, do bare in mind that the dimming version for the off side are very expensive.

It looks like you have to remove the glass, then unscrew the mirror drive. There is a catch that must be pressed to release the mirror cover. the catch is on the inside of where the mirror drive sits on both sides.

Cover removal prob.

door mirror.jpg Hi all,
I really need your helped.
My car is Mercedes Benz e220/ w211 Elegance year 2004 with power external mirror. The indicator cable is broken somewhere since it works when mirror is folded but not when it is open.
I read all the previous posts several times and I presume understood the procedure to remove the mirror cover. Butt this one doesn't appear to let me do it. I don't if that comes from me or from something wrong in side. I took some pictures but I can't figure what to do more than described in other posts.
Do you think I did miss something?
Thanks for your helps.

Yes press that silver catch and the cover should slide off. You must remove the glass first.

The later mirror did not come till 06-06

Search on YouTube. They're are some good visual guides there. The glass can stay in on the pre facelift cars.

My W211 mirror cover comes out without removing mirror, just need to align the mirror so that cover slides out (I don't have folding option, but I doubt it makes any difference...)

That silver clip is hard to detect, and figure out how much it have to jump up...

I am in the process of carrying out this repair at the moment.
I too had difficulty in removing the cover but found that I had to hold the metal clip with a screw driver then (lightly) tapped on the cover with a rubber mallet. Once it moved it slid off very easily. Probably just because its 12 years old !

JBerks original post is excellent, but I found that one can remove the entire mirror frame ( to work on it indoors) by unplugging the loom from inside the door without removing the entire door card. The forward most cover on the door easily pulls off, giving access to the ecu and plugs.

My own problem is that, although only the indicator was causing problems, when I removed the binding from the loom, all 5 of the black wires were broken. These are 2 for the indicator, 2 for the light in the bottom of the mirror and 1 for the tilt mechanism. (The other 2 for the tilt mechanism are intact)
My question is, how can I identify which is which, to reconnect.

Thanks

Steve

Not easy at all, one will be common ground, that would be the first one to find.
