Hi. I have a 1993 2.0L petrol 190 with 116,000 on the clock. I'm thinking of relacing the petrol engine with a diesel (2.0L) I want to keep the car as it belonged to my dad for the last 10 years but not keen on the MPG which is about 25-28. Has anyone done this? whats involved? and can anyone suggest where to start? I'm in Manchester. Thanks guys.

The best thing to do is by an old diesel 190 with a good engine because you will have to change over quite a lot. You will need the radiator, exhaust, engine mounts, and steering lock as the diesel steering lock has the vacuum pipes attachments for turning the diesel engine off. If you want the tachometer you will have to change the binnacle I have a 2.0l diesel manual its not bad power wise and get roughly 41mpg if the revs are kept below 3,500 but have seen it dropping to 30mpg if you put your foot down these are the figures for just running about it does about 50mpg on the long run. If you were going for an automatic I would go for the 2.5 diesel as these engines have more torque. You will also have to get an engineers report on the car for insurance purposes and also because you are doing away with the catalyst converter. Hope this give you some help.
