I have found a 2002 C200 at auction for a local authority, now as the cars they have on offer are non paying fines (parking tickets) the owner left with the keys. I am aware I need a V5 to get the keys ordered at my Local MB dealer but can they waive the V5 issue as it is being sold by a local authority???

if you have the bill of sale from the local authority with your name on, together with the vehicle's vin no and proof of id, I suspect you could talk them round. After all, what they specifically need it proof of ownership, and that effectively is.

You may get a jobsworth initially but a little perseverance normally does the trick.

Also, the previous owner isn't going to be too happy, clearly isn't the most law abiding citizen and is running around with an active set of keys for your car. Personally I'd be asking the dealer to de-activate the existing keys (I assume that must be possible) and putting a private reg on it.

As Jberks above, you may have to wait, while MB check if the wil.

The rules are changing right now with MB saying that they need to have the car,, more info later

There are two ways to go about it

Option 1

You could write to the previous owner and ask him to send you the keys, but give him a PO Box no to send them to !!! You will get one of two responces the keys or a letter bomb.

Worth a try for a 30p stamp though !!

Option 2

A £350 visit to MB for two new keys and a tow truck as they require the car at their premises to order keys now.

Being a coward i would go for option 2 if you get car at a good price !!
