Replacing a starter motor on a Mercedes A150 W169?

Hi,

I just wondered if anyone knows of any guides online that show you how to replace a starter motor on a manual A150 petrol? I've had a look on lofty's website but he seems to cover the A140 model not the A150.

Disconnect the battery, transmission jack under the whole front subframe, remove all of the subframe bolts apart from the two front ones, undo them halfway and lower transmission jack so rear of subframe drops a few inches, now you have very limited space to get to the main bolts and leads !! Unless you have a ramp, I would leave it well alone!!

Any work needed to a 169 in the engine bay automatically requires almost a full drop of engine and gear box, real pita to do anything with and always makes hours on simple jobs add up

yes, its almost easier to drop the whole engine, depending on what else needs doing.

Are you near Chiswick London?
There is a an A Class Specialist there. Sevan Motors .. Very reasonable, including a new genuine Mercedes Starter Motor.
Apparently he Can get to the starter motor bolts, without dropping the engine. Either he has tiny, double-jointed hands, or partially drops the engine.
