The service light, on my recently acquired CLK 200 Kompressor W208 displays B service exceeds 730 days, and i can't reset it.

I've lavished lashings of TLC on this CLK, i've changed the fluids and filters, cleaned the crank vents, mopped up all the oil that was swimming around the induction system, fitted a new genuine MAF, fixed the alternator, changed the battery and repaired the LCD displays in the dash.

I follow the procedure using the buttons on the steering wheel and when i scroll round and expect to see the message regarding resetting and i get nothing. After a few seconds the display will return to the odometer reading.

Anybody got any ideas?

Have you followed what it says in the handbook?

I did mine recently this way ^^, the reset buttons on the binnacle.

I don't have the handbook, the car is 16 years old and i'm the seventh owner.

I have tried several procedures but the most common is using the buttons on the steering wheel:-

Turn on ignition to position two.

Using lower buttons on left hand side of steering wheel scroll to the odometer screen.

Using upper buttons on left hand side of steering wheel scroll to the service message screen.

Press and hold the R button to the left in the binnacle.

I hold the R button but after a few seconds the display returns to the odometer screen.

I should then get the reset message, but i don't.

Any idea's?

I've just downloaded the owners manual and that is the correct procedure. it doesn't work for me and i'm wondering if its something to do with the service being so overdue?

Follow this

That's one of the many videos I've seen and is the procedure I described above. I'll do my own video later and show you how I follow the instructions and nothing happens.

Thanks for pitching in through.

I don't know if it's the case here, but there's usually a bit of a knack to these things to get the sequence and timing right - took me ages to get the oil level to display in the cluster but now I can do it easily. So try each way a few times before you dismiss it.

I'll keep trying then. I can't help thinking I'm missing something simple.

Very dodgy YouTube clip.

This is what I believe to be the correct procedure.

I wonder if it has something to do with the red battery message you have?

Try scrolling all the way through the menus until you come back to the odometer and then try again

The red battery warning comes on because the engines not running. If I start the engine it doesn't come on. But all the procedures I've watched havn't involved starting the engine.
The output from the alternator is a healthy 14.2V and the battery is new. But I will try your suggestion, i'll try anything:D

I do have other issues, there's a fault on the fuel circuit but it's not actually reporting a code, so it may be a blown o2 sensor heater or dodgy spark plugs. The plugs fitted are champion, which I have never had any faith in, i'll test the o2 sensor this evening.

You may be right, not allowing you to reset with outstanding issues, we'll keep plugging away at it.

Thanks for input.

I have conceded defiet on resetting the service light and gone to see my local indie. He's not MB, he's Audi but assures me he has the correct lead.

I told him my story, he smiles and says it can't be done via the buttons as I have exceeded the maximum limit. I am to take the car too him and he will reset it for me.

He also stated that you can't reset the service timer too early, you have to wait until you recieve the message.

I'll let you know how I get on.

success:mrgreen::mrgreen:

Mark the Audi man has cleared that long overdue service message, for which i'm very grateful.

At least we now know that the B service exceeds 730 days can be cleared even if it does have to be done with software, i'd call that a result.

Thanks for all those that chimed in.
