Another rip off for the government the new one is to remove the one, and two pence, from the coinage .We lost out when we went in to decimal currency before .

.
When the ½ penny was still around?

If this will end the ridiculous £19.99 type of pricing, I'm all for it.

Haven't carried any change, apart from eight pound pieces in the glove box, for a couple of decades now.
My wife still gets excited, when I pass on the coins to her :)

They did in NZ years ago. The difference it made to the consumer?
Zero.

Everything still get calculated to the penny then rounded up or down to the nearest 5p.

No big issue.

The thing is there are still 100p in a £...so you can still make purchases of £19.99 with a card or PayPal you just cannot get a penny change if using cash!........they are saying people are using cards most of the time.

What i think is a rip off is in my Town the car park says £1.20p for an hour....so people go round asking have you change so i can get 20p to add to the pound.

The machine doesn`t tell you that you can have about 45mins parking for a £...

You only know what you are told!

But the people who will loose out is the buyer . The item say is £3-99 do you think the seller will drop his price to £3-95 i think not you will now see the round fig of £4-00. Seller never looses on the deal . But you have lost a penny .

I think you'll find that retail shops who use the .99 will drop to .95.
In their eyes the 19.00 changing to £20.00 goes against the grain!

Only if you pay cash, you can still pay £3.99 by card.

Looking around most of the shops items are priced at round figures now anyway

In reality if something is £19.99...who waits around for the change?

The .99 pricing is only a marketing con anyway because apparently 19.99 apears a lot cheaper than 20.00 to many people...it's only really retail "impulse buys" (food and clothes) that have this structure.

How many such buys do you make in a day that can make any difference? If it's less than 5 that's still only 35p pw! If it's more than 5 then the problem is people buying too much stuff and cutting down on that would likely make far more difference than the rounding up o f a penny.

Suspect the immediate loser will be the charity tins which sit on counters- when I get anything 5p or less in change that’s where it goes

Charities will lose out. I know some do the 25p on the card reader thing.

We put all our shrapnel in a jar. When it's full, about 30 quid, I take it to one of those machines that swallows it, deducts a percentage for the job and gives the rest to charity.

My Mum always used to say 'If you look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves' ;)
