This is a question for those of you in the know . . I have been told by a local mechanic that inside the top of the rocker cover there should be a filter. On opening the rocker cover there is a thin plastic section which is screwed to the top (inside) of the cover. This connects to the airbox via a rubber pipe. I assume that this is to make sure that the pressure does not build up too high in this section of the engine.
On unscrewing the plastic section, it is empty, but the mechanic said that there should be a filter in there . . I've never heard of this? Any ideas?

My car is 1992 230CE (102 engine)

Many Thanks :D

Someone has removed it before you got the car.

Engine breather

Well strangely enough the car has never been serviced anywhere except for the dealership since new. I am the 2nd owner and have known the 1st owner for the life of the car.

The breather isn't blocked, but oil seems to be getting in there and then down the hose into the airbox. Not too much though. I assume having the filter in place stops this from happening.

So I assume that the correct name for this part is the "engine breather filter", will have to stop by my local German and Swedish and pick one up if they stock it. If not then I guess its a trip down to the stealership . .

Thanks for the help :D
