I got my Benz back!! From those Incompetent Rogues At Bosch (IRAB). 2001 E240 W210 with 2.6l 112 V6 engine.
As any owner SHOULD know, if you can tell this car is idling without looking at the rev counter, there is something wrong with it. Mine has been idling rough for over a year and lately started popping misfire codes on hard acceleration. New MAF (of course: money to IRAB) and new EGRV. Nothing. Finally, with the help of the forums and a lot of talk about corroding plug leads (mine were not and corrosion should not affect leads), I took a look. A replacement set later (Euro Car Parts) and instructions on here (hint: wrap a cord) and I GOT MY BENZ BACK.
These Bosch leads, with the metal sheath, have a fundamental design flaw. The live parts at the plug end have sharp edges millimetres from that sheath. Sharp edges concentrate HT voltages (that's why sparks fly from your fingertips) so the insulation breaks down, in my case after 35,000 miles, which is pathetic. The metal sheath makes it a shocker to debug.
There is a disk where the lead is soldered to the inner part of the plug holder and my leads had broken down in a full circle. I've tried to attach a picture, with the sheaths removed.
Shocking design. There are other "premium" brands available, I understand. Anything but Bosch.
