Hi All,

Just wondering what everyone uses for rubber mats in their car instead of the OEMs? Car is 2001 2597cc Mercedes Elegance Estate Auto.

I rang round a few dealers, all saying the part code is out of stock, possibly orderable from Germany, but then Germany says no more production.

Looked at WeatherTech but they don't support RHD vehicles for the driver.

So, I appreciate there is UKCarMats, but could some of the seasoned veterans on here impart their years of wisdom so I can make an informed choice? Anyone have experience of using them, or any other after market retailer?

Would rather hear from past user experience than buy into forum advertising.

Hi,

yes, sorry, how stupid, it's a W210.

I'll try and update my signature. Thanks.

Ok, I'll go for UKCarMats aka Hitech Auto Parts Ltd.

They're going to make up a custom rubber for the 7-seat conversion foot well in the boot. I can see the kids are already starting to wear the carpet down!

I'll post photos once installed if I can.

I've looked on Ebay but can't find OEM Merc to fit my car.

npuk: I've asked UKCarMats to pause production and send me a sample. Carmats4u have two types of rubber mats so I will request samples from them and make a more informed decision.

I'll report back with photos of the samples as well if anyone's interested in a comparison.

We got the premium rubber not the standard from Carmats4u. They are nice thick rubber mats with a good weight, not the cheap thin flimsy rubber mats you see for sale in other places.

They say this on their site about the premium rubber mats:
'This material is one of the heaviest available in roll form in the UK (6.5kg per m2, 0.5cm thickness). It is a product used by JCB, so durability and wear is unquestioned. '

Thanks for the info.

I've just ordered samples from both.

Have to say UKCarmats not so forthcoming with samples. They said it isn't something they usually do because of costs. However, they are going to send some. Also, Dan claimed that Carmats4u carpets were of inferior quality to UKCarmats ones. He could not comment on the rubber versions and then proceeded to order a sample.

Carmats4u, however, had no problems issuing a sample, even letting me have a half and half style edging so I could compare two different edging styles.

Let's see how they compare...

I havent had carpet mats from Carmats4u so cant comment on that but I can say their premium rubber mats are excellent, far better than the genuine Mercedes rubber mats I have in my car.

That's interesting to know.

I'll post back once I've seen the samples.

Ok, so I've had the samples back from Carmats4u and UKCarMats.

See images attached (UKCarMats on left, Carmats4u on right).

Findings:

CarMats4u

  • Very strong smell coming from the product.
  • Rough stitching on edges, perhaps finished product would look nicer?
  • Feels quite strong

UKCarMats

  • No smell whatsoever.
  • Edging good.
  • Slimmer than CarMats4u, but still feels as durable.

At this stage, I would go with UKCarMats simply due to the bad smell from the other product. I think it would make me sick after a while.

After speaking with UKCarMAts, one of the team said CarMats4u uses a PVC/Rubber, whereas they use rubber from Italy.

Hope this helps people looking at the products.
