Hi Folks, I recently sold my CL-420 and got a very good price for it under the current market conditions (well done Richard at Mercseller!).
It is definitely a buyers market at the moment for large cars and having had a quick look around I reckon I can get a good 140 s-class for not much more than about half the price I sold the CL for - this gives me a car with a bit more room and convenience of 4 doors but with all the luxuries i have got used too!!
I know from the CL that the fuel consumption on a V8 will not be very good (I use to get about 15mpg in London commuting and about mid-twenties on a run; both with careful driving). I have seen all sorts of different consumption figures quoted for the S-280 and S-320 models, some not much better than for a S-500. Does anyone have any real life experience of running these? I don't do very many miles so fuel consumption is not the most important factor, but in these days it still counts for something!
Also, how are the 280 and 320's for everyday driving? I certainly don't need it to be fast, but for instance will a 280 actually use more fuel than a larger engine because it is working harder all the time? I used to run an E-280 estate that was very nice, this did about 19-20mpg around town, so an s-class is about 200-250kg heavier so I guess it would use more fuel than this.
Any feedback would be appreciated and also any specific advice on what to look out for on the saloons that might be different than the coupe.
Regards,
Dave
