Your Mercedes
S500 (W140)
I am thinking of purchasing an S600 (W140) T reg, before they were discontinued.
Anyone owns one or knows cost of maintaining one?
What mileage would I get in town and motorway?
I heard it is very nice to drive
Would even consider S500

very very nice to drive - often quoted as better than the new s class..

very very expensive to run - 15 - 18 mpg

eats tyres for breakfast due to weighing at well over two tonnes.

do not buy a pre 1996 model - if unsure, 1996 had side air bags in the doors (SRS badge) - all 600s have xenon lights post 1996 iirc

good service history a must.

bomb proof otherwise... (some literally ;) )

Hi there,

Absolute bliss to drive and a pride to own.
I use approx 1 tank to 400 Kms and I love feeling the 300KW every day.
Yes tyres last approx 30,000km depending on conditions. In Australia, I travel on open roads and not too much city driving.
It all depends on your right foot, but if you love the car, you have to accept the costs or it can only be a dream.

Good luck,
Warren Merc Lover :D
