Hi everyone.

I know this sounds like a stupid question (especialy as I've had the car 2 years!) but the other day I found myself having to peer beneath the front seat from the back. I noticed that at the base of each seat on the back, there is what looks like a little white light. Intrigued, I opened up the cover but there was nothing inside that resembled a bulb. So the question is, are they lights? Are they a design from perhaps a previous model/version? Should they be wired-up?

(year 2000 E320 avantgarde estate).

Thank you for the quick response.

I can't see how they are anything to do with the tensioners because they are actually part of the seat. They are approximately 1cm x 2cm facing down from the bottom rear edge of the seat - not visible unless you actually peer beneath the seat. They look like they were designed for rear-passenger foot lighting.

Part of the interior lighting package, standard with avantgarde. LED's
Malcolm you probably don't have them as they light the rear footwells ;)
My Pax side one didn't work when I first bought the car the connector at the front of the seat was disconnected. The connector is visible from the front of the seat under the seat squab.

I was sat listening to the radio after switching off tonight and noticed that the only lights that stay on are the ones over the door handles. It's little touches like that that makes me really appreciate my car.

Thanks Blobcat, I know that there is a DC inverter (12in - 24+ out) under the seats that you connect the illnminated doos sills to, so that will be why its there.

drive down an unlit road at night pull over and look around the car. The whole car is beutifully illuminated. from the door handles to the footwells but it's done so well, that you don't notice. I particularly like the whole dash illumination that seems to come from nowhere (actually an led under the mirror). On the 211, they've moved the front reading lights to under the mirror too. Brilliant idea as it doesn't dazzle the driver as you can't actually see where the light is coming from. Passengers get confused - it looks like magic!

My son and I counted 98 lights whilst waiting for the management one night. He first spotted the ones over the door handles. I've set my phone to switch off it's lights as it glares too much compared to the car, the one from the interior mirror really does its job well.

Yes. That's the same on my 220 series S class too. Spent ages looking for the light before we found it. No dazzle at all. And you are right. The lighting has been so carefully thought out.

I have to agree, I have never had a car with such subtle, yet effective interior lifgting.

My interior lights are on all the time - as soon as the ignition is turned.

What car is that? So much more interesting if you put model and year in signature. Useful if you ever need advice or help too.

You can do it on 'Edit Signature' from the 'Quick Links' option in the top right.

These lights don't use convetional bulbs or LEDs, they also don't produce heat, making them ideal to use in panels & areas of trim that would normally be risky to have a hot bulb. They only cost £4. I retrofitted them in an Audi
A6 because they look so good. You can't beat the Germans for their ideas.
