I wonder if anybody here can help me with our Mercedes GLC 220d 2018?

I've had the multifunction indicator light come on and I’ve taken it to the dealer who says they cannot get the part and it's on backorder this has been going on now for months. So I'm wondering if I can find the part myself and fit it or get somebody else to fit it.

The dealer is not saying what the part is. I think it's something to do with the emissions sensors in the exhaust system. Possibly a soot sensor temperature sensor? It's not doing a DPF regeneration the dealer said it would be all right for a few hundred miles but they're not the ones paying if there's any further damage.

I have an OBD2 reader and getting the code P42C6 $07E8 pd

I've included some photos of what I'm getting on the code reader if that's any help

Does anybody know what the part is and exactly where it is located on the vehicle? surely it's just a bosch part or something?

thanks
oliver

I do not have a GLC220 D
The last picture mentions an oxygen sensor.
Normally there is one O2 sensor before and one after the Catalytic converter
NGK also manufacture O2 sesnsors.
Get another garage to just check the wiring to these sensors as it is a very hot environment.

Thanks that thread exactly describes the problems I’ve been having with the car
We mainly do short trips with only four to five long journeys a year

Going to try some DPD system cleaner and then see if the obd will get the light to stay out .but it might need the sensor changing

Just to explain some of that info you're getting on your OBD tool. The fault code I guess is obvious, P24C6. $7E8 is the module ID reporting the fault. This is the address of the Engine Control Module. $7E9 would be TCM.
The rest is the Readiness Monitors, primarily used for the US market. They allow the authorities to plug in and see that all the emission relevant systems are working OK.
These tell you whether the fault monitors related to those systems have competed since the faults were last cleared. If they say N/A, not supported by the vehicle. If OK, they have completed and passed. If INC, that means incomplete. That only means they have not passed yet. That might mean the correct conditions have not been reached to run those monitors or there is a problem preventing them from passing. You cannot determine which from this informarion alone. So here the you have Oxygen Sensor Heater INC. Please do not just assume you have a problem with the O2 sensor.

The theory is that if you want to know why the Oxygen Sensor Heater has not passed is that you look at Mode $06 data. That would give you more specific information of the tests behind this monitor. The problem is that cheap those OBD tools don't show this data. Nobody bothers with this data either as tools like the icarsoft give better information (sometimes!) for not much money. In reality if there's a problem, you will get a fault, so just wait.

With regards to the fault you have got, I agree with the above, soot temp sensor...but you have to change the whole soot sensor.

Any idea on the soot sensor part number or where I can find it and where has them in stock ?

Mercedes says they can’t get them there on back order and they don’t have any in Germany either

I can get a local guy to fit it but need the parts

Thanks

Smart + others :)
There are a few sensors in the exhaust, I suspect one of the nox sensors is faulty. I posted on a thread on here, it might be not as easy as just replacing it. Sometimes it involves soft ware updating and then the other will need changing too.

An update on my GLC
It's been repaired by Mercedes this morning. they have fitted a new soot sensor .cost £538

I can't tell you anymore as that's all they told us the invoice was also very vague

Hopefully no more problems. getting rid of it in November anyway .got a Kia EV 6 GT line S on order.

Thanks for everyone's help on here

I hope you aren't paying ?

this sounds remarkably like the faulty from build emission system and illegal software they used, arguing with budget hardware they used... then they slowly get the owner to pay to replace sensors with ones that function and install new software till the car meets their obligation that it legally was meant to deliver back when they made it - but never did

I hope every one of you with merc tractors are ringing than ambulance chaser lines you see on TV adverts - you were stitched up - thousands of pounds in compensation - yes an immoral bunch of robbers - but it will work better then one individual getting told off by their local stealership

Part number please.
Sorry the invoice they gave me didn’t give the part number.

it was very vague and didn’t give any information apart from saying soot sensor and the price.

Not great from Mercedes

Sorry I can’t be more helpful
