Shall I inform my insurance if I change the grill of my 202 to avantgarde one? Would it increase my premium even if it costs cheaper than the standard one? Thanks.

in theory it shouldn't make a difference as it is a cosmetic change due to replacement. but i would ring them and ask to see what they say. taking you cars badges off is a modification but doesnt increase your insurance. same should apply to adding a grill of a different model in the same range. you need to know what they think as finding out when it is too late is not worth it.

what normally adds increases are sought-after nickables like bigger wheels or performance modifications which increase the velocity that you stuff it into a tree and thereby creating more damage they have to pay for to fix, and indeed allowing you to travel fast enough to have the accident in the first place.

However, adding badges to your car does increase your insurance in some circumstances - if you were to add a GTi badge to a normal Golf, the average cost is £60 extra on your premium. My sister has a GTi, and someone on the forum she belongs to had that happen to him!

yes. thats why i suggested in theory it shouldnt. to be honest this is an insurance company policy to deter people from making cars look more desirable and therefore more at risk from thevies. some companies look at the type of cosmetic additions and car types and make a judgement based on that.

insurance companies are so annoying. they insist you fit tracking devices but dont offer you cheaper insurance if you decide you want one on you car that didnt need one. I had a Subaru WRX and I wanted a tracker fitting, the insurance company didnt bother, but they refused to offer a cheaper quote when i had it fitted. sold the car as i got fed up with the police stopping me to check that it was mine!

Does that mean that if you make a GTI look like a 1.6l they will give you a discount?!

In the student days I had a standard looking and badged 4 door escort 1.3L with an XR3 engine and gearbox. Used to upset a few of the hot hatch boys at the lights and nobody wanted to nick it!

In my opinion and experience insurance co's are total s---bags, you tell one thing wrong and they will wiggle ! The best at taking your money, and the worst at paying out ! wait for it someone will get up and defend them !!!

SHOULD BE MORE REGULATED BY A DECENT GOVERNMENT !, trouble is finding one !
