You can't help but notice the number of silver cars on the roads these days, I know it was originally thought that silver helped the resale value but it has now got to the point that there is likely to be a rebound effect. In my litte part of the world I would say that about 50% of cars I see are various shades of silver or metallic grey. Black is becoming very common in the last year or so and I think this may have something to do with people being fed up with the silver tide.
Personally I think that silver is very boring and I much prefer the move towards black.

You have come along at the perfect time for me. I have been thinking that if I do not find a silver car with the spec that I want then metalic black will do nicely, closed cars do get hot in the summer, but in my case it does not matter being an open car.

Most manufatureres spray silver as a standard colour now which is why there are so many of them. Almost all other metalics are special order. One of my requisites when I bought mine was that I didn't want a silver one. My wife has a black car, 2 in a row now, so I fit half of the silver/black. Mine is Violane - Purple / Blue which is never going to be that popular.

I have to agree there are a lot of silver cars around nowadays. My personal preference is blue however :)

Black is nice too though

Blue and black was the most popular colours from the early 20's right through to the late 30's, and very nice it was.

The C class is Blue and the Astra is grey/metalic which I think has a perl as in the right light it's petrol blue.

My cortina was Blue along with my Mk 1 Astra, Maestro, Proton, and one of the Rovers. Ive also had two silver metalic Rovers.

Blue is my colour of choice however, I also like a variety of bright colours on the right cars. Some work and some do not. I have just bought a Black Audi 80 2.0 Sport in a very shiny Black. Needs a couple of small jobs but a very clean 62k car. Bought for rallying but its just in great nick so I'll move it on.

Forgot the Sierra - it was the best shade of blue I've owned. Would have loked great on an early SL.

My C43 is silver (as was the last one), my wife's Clio is silver. My neighbours on the left have a silver Mitsubishi people carrier. On the right there is a silver Polo and beyond that a silver 3 Series and another silver Polo.

In my view it makes the street look very neat :)

I heard that the streets where you lived were paved with gold.

Oddly enough I was told that the streets of London were paved with gold before I moved here from Scotland nearly 20 years ago.

I am still looking.........

Most popular colours for cars is an interesting thing. When I was in the automotive trade many moons ago now - late 70's to early 90's I remember reading an article in the trade press on the most popular car colours and they were Red, White and Blue (thats seperate colours not lots of union flag cars....) Interestingly, although they were the most popular colours "chosen" by the greater unwashed public, they were not the publics favourite colours !!! The reason why they were the most popular was that the manufacturers made more cars of those colours and so they were available on short delivery times - hence the public bought them rather than waiting 8 weeks or more for a different colour - thus fueling higher sales of the "popular" colours........... I reckon silver can be added to this list now........

I've had various colours over the years.
Black looks great if it's clean and polished. But it shows every defect.
Blue is less muck prone but every scratch and mark shows up.
Silver, whilst a bit boring is the most practical I've had. Never looks dirty, and doesn't show scratches.

Silver or Black, I think depends on the car and model
Silver does always look clean and dosn't show dust & scratches, but does not blend very well when it's re-sprayed! One of the hardest colours to match!!

You would think black would hide a multitude of sins, just like wearing black clothes does :p

I had no idea blue shows every scratch and mark :?

I have noticed how much it shows the dirt though, especially the darker blues. Ours is a kind of pearlescent blue and in certain lights it looks all different shades of blue/voilet, very pretty :D

I'm very fond of red

but Merc's smoky-silver is very nice as well. Silvery, but with a hint of gold, or gold, with a healthy dose of silver. Just like the electrum the ancient egyptians used to cover their obelisks, but on a german obelisk.

My Merc says 'Brown' on the registration document (I know...) but it's more a dark bronze / purple colour which looks rather nice actually. It's a unusual colour so I quite like it.

That's true of any light-ish metallic paint. I've tended to choose sandy colours for my previous cars, but MB don't offer anything like that, at least for the models I've been interested in.

Today I saw a fiesta painted metallic bubblegum pink! And it had fluffy pink seats too.
