Single or Twin Wiper Blades........comments

I've got a single wiper on my W202 C250 TD, and had one prior on another car, not Merc.
Personally I prefer the single as less smears seem to be left, but mainly I think the visibilty is better than twin. However I notice that Mercs have moved to twin wipers from what was I think single at one time on all models.
What are peoples views on this, and why the move to twin blades

One word - COST.

Single wiper mechanism probably more expensive to produce and twin wiper does almost the same job for a lot less and you can charge same amount for the car.

I much prefer the single wiper on my 202 C class to the double on my 211 E class. No smear, no spray more 'elegant' and always wows non-MB owners in the car ;-)

I like the mono-wiper for it's engineering and unique action. As said, when people notice what it does they think it's fascinating.
Personally I can't say that it is more efficient than a dual wiper system and the blade does not last as long ,but then there is only one to replace so it is no more costly. Just make sure that the drive head is lubricated yearly or you are going to face a large bill when it fails.:sad:

I had a single on my last SL and a double on my current SL, no difference other than the cost of two blades.

I had the cam driven version on a CX years ago.

Incidentally what is the best grease to use on the mechanism? I have read a few posts stating lithium grease, is this correct? And is there a more common manufacturer name for it that is available commercially?

These people have both types in stock, the PTFE grease is also water proof and just as good.
