Is anyone thinking of travelling down to Dorset in search of one of those Mercedes 4x4s that are due to be washed up on the beach?

I've heard of 'off the back of a lorry' but I think 'I found it whilst out walking' wouldn't wash with the law.

LOL

Its all only a few miles from me, tomorrow there will be no access to the beach from the road, I had thought of walking down to the sea front and round the corner when the tides out, but I have no use for BMW steering wheels or babies nappies. A new BMW motorbike is more Blobcat than me.

There are news reports of a guy walking away with a BMW bike worth about £13k!

"I just watched the South West News and there was a young guy in his 20's wheeling a BRAND NEW undamaged BMW mc off the beach at Boscom Devon he'd "liberated" from one of the containers that has been washed overboard from the beached SS Napoli."

Look at this! up to 50 BMW bikes!

You should see the threads running on one of the BM bike forums. As the containers are well sealed the bikes (~50 of them) are coming off very well. And yes ~£12K only gets you a basic BM bike.

Before you can leave the beach the police are taking the serial numbers of the bikes and names and address of everyone. tonight is the last night.

LOL.

I thought it was BMW 4x4 that was washed up.

One of my friends went down there yesterday but he was too late.

It all seems a bit crazy to me! The only winners I guess are the ones who get the bikes?

I heard people are camping on the beach now!

I thought it was rather funny. There was an official warning about these toxic containers, then the new report started talking about the ship generally, dropping in that the toxic containers were in a sealed compartment below decks - ergo - all salvage is perfectly safe!

What are the laws on salvage?

AIUI, anything you find, you have to hand in to the police. But if nobody claims it, it's yours. That's not going to happen in this instance as there is no doubt who owns the cargo of the wrecked ship.

Took the car out today, and all three roads to Branscombe have police stopping everyone from going down unless you live there, or are in the service trade and you have a valid reason. So it has all come to an end, OK for the locals though.
