SL 320 V6 - Advice please!

I am currently wanting to buy a SL320 V6 (2000 reg 61K milage) for my wife because she has fallen in love with one we have found. It seems to be in great condition but I would like to have someone who knows these cars in detail to look at it for me. The seller is happy for someone to examine it, but not for it to leave his forecourt. It is currently in York and I would be willing to pay appropriate expenses. I had the AA examine a Porsche 911 I bought a few years ago and that was a mistake, it really does need to be someone with more specialist expertise. Any advice would be most welcome - in anticipation, many thanks. David

I have a 1999 SL320 V6 and "Television" on here is a bit of a mastermind on them and am sure will answer any questions you have.

There aren't many R129 specialists that I know of that will do this - unlike a Porsche PPI which there are numerous specialists. As a word of warning I paid £300 for a highly recommended 996 specialist and detailed report and purchased the car on the back of it unseen. I found many more obvious faults than were listed so wouldn't trust them ever again.

Why not put the car into MB for a 'service' and inspection? If the dealer says no then walk away - there are plenty of SL320s out there to choose from.

If you're not a member of the official owner's club then join as there are members there who can inspect cars for you. Their monthly Gazette also features member adverts - a nice SL320 in this months.

The magazine is very good, their forum is a shamble and a disgrace to any club, its like something from the dark ages.

They have about 2 good guys on it, but thats all.
