I'm looking to buy a mid 90's SL320, have a modest budget which still throws up a huge number of cars for sale. Tere will be some dogs out there but am not mechanically competent enough myself to spot issues during a test drive unless they shout out at me. This will be a second car, doubt I would do more than 4k a year, but equally l want to keep it for many years to come.
I have two questions if I may;
1) Can anyone recommend a trusty dealer (ideally in or near West London) who might specialise in SL's or older Mercs in general ? I realise I would pay a premium over a private sale, but would take some comfort if they know what they are doing.
2) Does anyone know a Merc specialist who could undertake a pre-purchase vehicle inspection, i.e. to help me check out the car during a test drive and advise me before I hand over a wad of cash - much like the services offered by AA/RAC but in the case someone who knows Mercs (and ideally SL's) specifically ? Perhaps I should ask any of the independent Merc garages if they could offer such as service. That would give me greater confidence seeking a private sale...
