My SL has a weaping oil cooler pipe, no evidence of leak on drip tray. Is this expensive/easy to fix?

I think you mean it leaks from where the pipe leaves the gearbox, I am sure that I have seen this problem elsewhere, will check.

Geo,

The leaking pipe is dead easy to fix. Just undo the connections and take it down to your friendly hydraulic services suppliers you will find in the yellow pages. The leaking pipe on the 500E of mine was a loose crimp on one of the front pipes. My hydraulic guy made a new one up in stainless braided teflon hose - aircraft quality - a much higher standard than normally required - but hey, it looks pretty! all for £15.
I don't know what MB would charge for the same pipe but for a similar pipe for a departed Audi the stealers price was £147!!!!!

How much fluid am I likely to lose on disconnection? Will this result in an air "bubble" in the system. And, can I simply catch the fluid and pore back down the gear box dipstick hole?

Geo,

a) Depends which pipe needs replacing and which pipes you can pinch off.
b) Not in an oil cooler pipe.
c) No, use clean fluid (you skinflint) The old stuff will be used and part contaminated and all the money I have suggested saving can pay for a little fluid replacement (not saying where!)

If the answer fits use it
