SL500 1997 5 Speed Auto

Hi All,
I had a strange thing with my transmission yesterday: When I shifted from Reverse to Drive, the transmission would not select Drive/engage gear. I switched off the car, restarted it, and only then did it engage drive.

This morning, I drove it a short distance, Reverse engaged perfectly, Drive engaged perfectly, I drove for about 1 Km, and the drive just disengaged (while still in D)

So I restarted the car, and the transmission engaged Drive normally.

I took a longer drive, with the transmission performing normally, no issues.

Has anybody ever experienced anything similar?

The car has only about 67,000 miles on it...

Hi, has it had a transmission oil change that you know of, could be a few things but a gear box service can only do good.
