Hi Television. I hope you had a good meeting yesterday! I did fully lift the unit ans take off the SAM as shown in the other picture and all ok.

It was mentioned that it could be one of the other connectors and thought my luck was in when I found the corroded connector, but not to be.

Do you know what the blue Tyco relay/fuse is for and if it should have 3 or 4 pins.? Similar units all seem to have 4 and there was corrosion around it as well.

Kind regards, Tim.

It just looks like the 4th one has snapped off, but i couldn't see it anywhere, but could have been missed. There is some sign of corrosion around the tag that is missing if indeed it is!

Hopefully a picture of where it sits in the top of the fuse line is attached.

Thank you for your time!

Yes I saw that greenish look but the pins look OK, must admit that I have never seen a 3 legged one, though possible

I will post back shortly

Any other ideas?

Is the starter motor solinoid exposed or a problem? The last time it went to start it sounded like a flat battery and then it span and started. Now nothing with a charged battery.

Relay L is for the starter, K is for the engine electronics I take it the dash lights up as usual and the key turns OK

Dash lights come up as usual and don't dim turning to normal start position. Just a click with the bonet up that sounds like a relay low on the car drivers side. Key turns fine. 51k on clock!

I would start by checking to see if the solenoid is getting 12 volt when trying to start and work back from there and the relay L, this is the starter relay

Not sure i am equipped to get under the car to do that, but still wondering why this is at the same time the car won't go into gear which was the original problem.

Is there a contact that could be a problem on the gear shifter that thinks that it is in gear still so will not let the engine start?

Originally when i had the problem, i would sit in the car and keep turning the key and moving the gear shift forwards and backwards and finally it would start. Problem got worse until it wont start at all now. When it originally started it wouldnt go into gear. I would turn it off and then it wouldnt start. When it did, it would then go into gear and all ok. Get back from trip turn off and the on and into gear ok!

Any further thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tim.

Good thinking, yes there is an isolater switch starter lock out on the gear shift, so all of your problem could be on this

When i turn on the key to the pre full turn to start there is a click of sorts like a relay, by the gearshift! I can faintly feel this through the gearshift when i turn on the ignition pre engine start position. How on earth do you get to it?

The top cover comes of the gear shift with just three screws each side with the side covers off, but the actual selector has components under the car that must be disconnected before you can lift it up.

If only a STAR read out could be done.

Keep the key turned to start and slide the gear shift around (foot on brake) to see if it will pick up

No Such luck! Would take over to my Mecedes dealer to put on STAR if it would start and go into gear.
I couldn't see the screws you mention, but take it from what you say its pointless taking off the cover as i still won't get to the relay.

Thanks again for your time Television.

I have had many cover off the top, not sure what you can get to but not much room, I will check on WIS later in the day to see if anything can be removed without tasking out the complete shift

Hi Television.
Just called my friend Linda at the local dealers. She went and asked the guy in the workshop she thought would know best and he said the module is most likely and£465 plus Vat plus 2hrs labour etc! She said they wouldnt change a componant of the module just the whole thing. Fitters not mechanics these days! Be handy to know if the isolater switch you mention is a seperate easy to change item. The fitter/mechanic hadnt heard of this!

Cheers,
Tim.
