Hi, I have a '93 E220.  It has recently developed a slight uneven idle when slowing to a halt.  Once the car stalled at the lights.  I have read various postings here and on other sites and the main culprit appears to be the OVP relay.  I have just replaced mine but the fault remains.  Are there any members/experts who is able to advise what I should check next?  By the way I did have the garage hook up to their computer to see if there are any faults, but everthing seems fine.

Any comments or advice much appreciated.

Hi

You don't say what garage hooked up there computor. Was it a MB dealer?

The trouble with these vehicles you don't want go around just replacing parts as this will get expensive. The OLP RELAY, on your model dosn't cause stalling as you have found out.

Could really do with fault codes. From the ECU. Otherwise you will have to try a idle actuator. But I warn you its expensive. Take it into a garage and let them sort it out. Then you have some one to blame!!!!

Thanks Andy,

The garage is run by techs specializing in Mercs.  It was a hand held gadget with MB logo on it and it gives out digital readout on idle speed, etc.  The cable is plugged into a socket on the driver's side (RHD) near the strut tower.  Is this a different readout and not from the ECU?

The car stalled again reversing out the drive this morning.  I am thinking maybe it might be the fuel relay...  The car has clocked 74000km only so I don't believe it would be anything mechanical, or the fuel filter.

What is this idle actuator?  What makes this part fail?  Is it electrical or mechanical?

Sorry for all the questions, but from past experience, the more I find out myself, the more I can help a tech later on.  I am concerned that a tech will charge you plenty just fault finding and then still cannot resolve the problem.  The beauty of these forums is that there may just be someone out there who has experience a similar fault with their car and has successfully fixed it who may want to share it with others....just help pinpoint where the fault may be.

Anyone out there??  Thanks!

Hello.

I'm new to this forum, but do hope to learn along the way.  I have a 1989 300E with 185,000 miles -- quite a workhorse and no major problems till now!  I brought the car to the MB dealership a couple weeks ago because it stalled (after it had been running for 10 minutes).  It would not restart straightaway.  Prior to that episode, there were no warning signs other than a lack of speed and momentum when climbing up a slight hill a few months back.

The oxygen sensor, overload protection relay, distributor cap, rotor, and 2 fuel pumps were replaced.  It was quite an expensive visit to say the least!  I was able to drive the car for 2 days before it stalled once again -- after running 10 minutes -- and would not restart straightaway.  The car is back at the dealership and it is being worked on at this moment.  I'm not sure that they have found the cause.  Should I be worried that they did not diagnose this problem quickly?  I'm beginning to feel a bit apprehensive by their lack of expertise.

I will recommend that they look into the idle actuator as Andy has recommended.  Or does someone out there have any other thoughts on the subject?  Thanks.
