Hello , I am on the verge of buying 2001 slk 200.

What do I need to look out for when purchasing ?

Is there a check list ?

The car has been standing for 18 months and it starts fine

Will the brakes need any work on them , etc

many thanks Pete

I too have recently bought a slk230 for the summer,I would personally go for a 230 or 320 agianst a 200 as i,ve heard the 200 is a bit sluggish in the boot it dept.

Things to check include

1 Hood works and there are no oil stains on the roof lining.
2 Signs of water in the boot under the spare wheel (pump can fail)
3 Rust on rear wheel arches
4 Battery tray rusty
5 Oil in the engine wiring loom (look at the front of the engine and on the bell housing) there is a modiifaction to stop leaks.
6 Change transmission oil if its an auto.

BTW stick out for one with heated seats and all the goodies you wont regret it.
Options include
Heated Seats
Electric Seats
Headlamp Wash
Xenons
Dimming Mirrors
Leather

I was lucky and mine has the lot.

2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
Also look at any scuff marks on the center console and door handles etc,,all quite expensive stuff
